Cronus Zen Link Setup & Troubleshooting
Set up Zen Link for PS5 and fix app discovery, Wi-Fi, Connection Failed messages and Native Mode connection problems.
Zen Link is a separate Wi-Fi expansion module for Cronus Zen. It supports PS5 Native Mode and wireless configuration. Identify your Link model before following instructions: an original V1 may need its one-time upgrade before using the current app workflow.
Before you start
Prepare the network and phone before changing console settings.
- Have your Cronus Zen, Zen Link, PS5 and USB data cables ready. Check that the Zen and Link firmware are compatible with the current setup instructions.
- Install the official Zenlink app and turn on your phone’s Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Allow the nearby-device or local-network permissions requested by the app.
- Use Wi-Fi with a working 2.4 GHz band. A 5 GHz-only network cannot connect the Link.
- Put your phone on the same local network as Zen Link. Avoid a separate guest network that prevents devices from communicating.
- Keep the Wi-Fi name and password ready. If you have a V1, complete its official one-time upgrade before using the current app setup.
Connect Zen Link and run the app setup
Connect the Zen to USB power, fit Zen Link in A1 and keep your phone nearby. Open the app and let it discover the Link over Bluetooth. Follow its prompts to choose the Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
Wait for the app to confirm the connection. Discovery and Wi-Fi connection are separate stages: finding the Link over Bluetooth does not mean it has joined the router. The official Zen Link setup covers the current model workflow.
Fix “Connection Failed”
This message often means the phone cannot reach the Link on the local network.
- Confirm the phone is using Wi-Fi and that Zen Link is joining the same network. Check the network name carefully if your router has separate bands or guest networks.
- Check that 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is enabled. Move the phone and Link closer to the router for the initial test.
- Temporarily turn off mobile data so the phone does not switch away from Wi-Fi during setup, then choose Try Again.
- If a VPN or network isolation setting is preventing local-device access, test without that restriction on your own trusted network.
- Restore mobile data after the connection works. Do not repeatedly reset the Link while the app is still completing a connection attempt.
The app cannot find Zen Link
Check that the Link is powered, your phone’s Bluetooth is enabled and the app has permission to discover nearby devices. Close and reopen the app, then use Retry while standing close to the Link.
If the device was already configured, reconnect your phone to its saved Wi-Fi network. A changed router, password or network name can leave the Link looking for a network that no longer exists.
Reset Wi-Fi setup and enter credentials again
On firmware that supports the Config-button Wi-Fi reset, hold Config for about five seconds to return to wireless setup, then enter the network name and password again in the app. Check for spaces, capital letters and a saved password from an old router.
The button procedure depends on the Link generation. Older V1 instructions enter Config Mode by holding Config while connecting power. Do not confuse this with the pinhole factory reset, which erases settings. If your unit does not react as described, use its model-specific update instructions before trying a factory reset.
Prepare the PS5 connection
Use the Native Mode wiring and settings together; changing Output Protocol alone does not complete PS5 setup.
- Connect the Zen’s rear CONSOLE/PC port to the PS5. Leave Zen Link in A1 and connect a supported controller by USB to a front controller port.
- On PS5, open Settings → Accessories → Controller (General) → Communication Method and select Use USB Cable.
- Follow the Link setup’s PS5 Bluetooth setting. Native Mode setup calls for console Bluetooth to be off; that is separate from your phone’s Bluetooth used by the app.
- Keep the console awake during setup and check its USB power-saving settings if the connection stops in Rest Mode.
- Complete Native Mode activation, then test ordinary controller buttons in the console menu before testing a script in a game.
Native Mode fails or keeps retrying
Confirm Wi-Fi and internet access first, then check the console cable, Use USB Cable and the Link’s firmware. Record the colour and number of LED flashes rather than describing it only as a red light.
Short red patterns identify different failures, including time synchronisation, internet access and Native Mode activation. Use the LED colours and error codes guide to select the next check. Leave the device powered throughout a firmware installation.
Controller works, but the headset is silent
A headset plugged into a controller paired to the Zen over Bluetooth does not receive controller-jack audio through that connection. Native Mode’s console Bluetooth requirements can also affect headset routing on some configurations.
Use a console-compatible USB headset, USB DAC or wireless headset receiver connected directly to the PS5 when controller audio is unavailable. Check the console’s selected sound output and microphone input separately. See headset and audio fixes for the connection options.
FAQ
No. Zen Link needs 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. A dual-band router can work as long as its 2.4 GHz band is enabled and local devices can communicate.
No. Disabling it temporarily helps diagnose a setup failure. Restore it once the phone and Link communicate correctly over Wi-Fi.
No. Configuration controls and the pinhole factory reset serve different purposes. Check the procedure for your Link model before holding buttons during power-up.
